Here is sheet music for the piano played in Christina Grimmie’s (zeldaxlove64) cover of ‘Through the Glass’. You can download the PDF by clicking this CloudApp link: cl.ly It’s not as complicated as the sheet music makes it appear if you only consider the basic chords being played in the song. It’s a little hard to see what she is playing at times so I’m hoping this will make it a little easier for anyone trying to learn it just by watching her. I tried my best to capture all of rhythmic improvisation that makes each of the repetitive parts sound slightly different. Technically, you don’t really need to learn anything else beyond the first page to get an idea of what is being played throughout the rest of the song. The sheet music does not accurately portray how long many of the notes are actually held down. I used Finale to compose the sheet music and this video is actually an audio playback created by Finale. I used longer notes and an excessive amount of ties to trick Finale to playback in such a way that would make it sound like it was using a sustain pedal, so don’t get intimidated by it. I suggest listening to the audio above while following along with the sheet music, especially if you’re like me and you’re not very good at reading sheet music to being with. It will all make sense. Please excuse any mistakes I might have made.

As with a lot of technological change, this is neither a good thing nor a bad thing. It’s just different. Today, conscientious adult piano players should have a basic understanding of the current state of sheet music publication, and where it is headed.
After all, when we examine our habits as consumers, we find that most of us tend to look for the cheapest and easiest options whenever possible. So these days, when there are so many free piano music downloads to be found all over the Internet, why would anyone ever pay money for sheet music?
In truth, more people cling to the old mediums of sheet music than one may think. And, of course, there is nothing wrong with this. Some people are simply not comfortable with the Internet, and may never be. Besides, what adult piano player doesn’t enjoy the look and feel of a thick, comprehensive collection of the piano works of Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Debussy, or Rachmaninoff? Although the town I live in isn’t that small, there still isn’t a large selection of stores when it comes to music. There is only one small music store that I go to (and only on rare occasions) when I need something immediately, like guitar strings for example.
When I want to buy sheet music though, that little shop isn’t much help. There is only a small selection of sheet music for the most popular genres and most popular instruments. If you want to play Beethoven piano arrangements then you are fine, but if you want something else then you are out of luck.
I couldn’t find what I wanted in my area, so shopping online was my only alternative. After trying different online sheet music dealers I finally came across one that I really liked-Musicnotes. This website offered instant digital sheet music and I thought it sounded cool, but wasn’t sure how “digital” music works.
I found out that it was really easy to do it though. In order for the digital sheet music to work, you do need to have special sheet music software, but you can download that for free on the Musicnotes website. After downloading the free software I began searching through the music database. It was completely different from my local music store!
This site has thousands of songs to download the sheets for, and in many different genres. The quality of the site is great and I have never had interest in buying from a local store again. It is easy to buy exactly what I want and I don’t even have to leave the house. I can find a song, download the sheet music, and learn it right away.
At first I was leery about the musicnotes player software, but now love it! It has many features that help you to learn songs such as being able to transpose, change the tempo, or learn one part of the song at a time.
The only downside I can see with this program is that you have to be on a computer for these features to work. But, if you want you can print off the sheet music like you normally would. Since I use a digital piano, I usually just slide that up next to my computer so I can use the software though, it really is a big help.
Anyway, if you are having trouble finding sheet music in your area, then I highly recommend Musicnotes. I have never bought “real” sheets since I found this site, and I don’t plan on doing it either.
